2013 Wrap-up

January 10, 2014

The end of 2013 was a whirlwind!  We had a crazy amount of fun and chaos, but that kept me from updating the blog like I would have liked to.  No guilt though.  I post when I can!  😉

Robots, Badges, and Growth Spurts!

Oh my!

What a great year 2013 has been!

Andrew, Christopher & Erin participated in a FIRST Lego Robotics team this fall.  What an amazing experience for all of them!  Andrew was the coach and the kids enjoyed learning and getting to spend some extra time with Andrew.  Our team, The Inconceivables, participated in the state FIRST Lego Tournament this month and placed 19th out of 58 ranking teams.  They did great and the whole team is looking forward to next year.

Michele, Erin & Kelsie continued with American Heritage Girls this year.  Erin is in her last year at the Explorer level and Kelsie is in her first year as a Tenderheart.  They both enjoy getting to spend time with their friends, earning badges and the amazing opportunities to reach out to the community through service.  Michele has helped the troop transfer to a web-based tracking system for troop management and they are all excited to be starting a troop closer to our area for next year, with Michaela possibly joining as well.

Everyone continues to be healthy and this year, all six kids have grown in leaps and bounds.  Christopher, is 6’ at age 12 and has finally caught up (and is quickly passing) both of us in height.  Erin isn’t far behind him at 5’ 7.  All of the kids grew over 5” in 9 months and their jeans were looking more like waders when we did the seasonal clothing switch.

Kelsie officially joined our homeschool this year and we’re now keeping up with 7th, 6th, 4th grades and kindergarten as well.  Some days are crazy with learning to read and write, writing essays, and Algebra but we wouldn’t have it any other way.  Michaela and Liam continue to join in on the things they can and can usually be found with one of their older siblings “helping” with their assignments.

In September, we enjoyed a family vacation to Williamsburg, VA.  Walking through history in Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown was a wonderful experience for everyone.   We also enjoyed part of the vacation, including a day at Busch Gardens, with Michele’s dad and step-mom as well as her brother and his little girl.  It was a fun and relaxing time!

Our family has much to be thankful for: our friends and family, our health and home, and blessings too numerous to count.   It’s late, but we hope you all had a wonderful holiday and are off to a great start in 2014!!
