Friday Wrap-up

May 11, 2012

This week was just totally off schedule.  Sometimes that’s a bad thing, but sometimes it’s good.  No, scratch that.  Sometimes it’s GREAT!  We did several science experiments that we’ve been wanting to do for a while.  I’m posting pictures of the one we did last Friday, though…because those pictures are good.  ha!

You can watch the entire experiment here:

Egg in a Bottle

Here are our supplies.  2 bottles, 2 eggs, matches, and a small piece of folded paper

I wasn’t sure that our bottles would work.  They were on the small size and well, you never know, but we decided to go ahead and give it a try.

The final results were a little disappointing, but it did (sort-of) work. Some of the egg did end up in the bottle, however, part of the egg fell off on both.

We’ve moved on to World War I in our history and it’s been a little rough for the kids to transition into yet another war.  There have been a few sections of our books that I haven’t delved into as deep, and I’m reminded of one of the many reason I love homeschooling.  We definitely want them to know history, but at the same time, one of the reasons we homeschool is so we can take it at their pace.

All three of the kids are at a good place in their math right now.  That is a welcome relief after the angst of long division we’ve had for the last several weeks.

Geography has been SO MUCH FUN this week!  We have friends that are adopting from The Democratic Republic of the Congo and have been blogging about their adventure in bringing their new daughter home.  You can read about their journey on their blog Harp & Hammers.  We are so excited for their family and overjoyed to know she’s almost home!

We finished up most of our work for the week already, so after a short day on Friday, I think we’re going to play some board games and just hang out.  The weather is supposed to perk up, too.  If it dries up, we can get outside and play!  I’ve been posting a lot of pictures of Christopher, with his birthday this week, so here are a few of the other kids.

And now for this week’s What is it? Wednesday.  I’m breaking the rules a little bit.  Of the 4 people who guessed what the picture is, three of them were correct.  It is indeed a bird’s nest.  The kids have asked that I not share the full picture with you yet, though.  I’ll post it on Monday, but between now and Monday…they would like you to guess where the nest is.  I know that’s going to be sort of impossible without more to go on.  So, I’m giving you one hint.  It’s in metal.  How’s that for easy?  You can definitely guess something metal, right?  😉  Good luck!

That’s all for this week!  I’ll be adding a post about Christopher’s birthday cake next week.  Hope you all have a great weekend and Happy Mother’s Day to all moms!

Michele
