Garden update

July 10, 2010

It’s been almost a month since I posted our last garden update, so it’s past time for this one.  I’ve been taking pictures each weekend and it has been fun to see the progress.  These are pictures I took earlier tonight.  We had some more issues with critters and the deer finally came out of fawning and found the buffet garden, so Andrew put a netting “fence” around it.  That seems to be working for now!   It’s definitely stylish too.  😉

Here are all four boxes:

From the other end, the first box is corn.  The red corn is starting to catch up with the white.

Sugar snap peas in outer two squares with spaghetti squash between.  Two squares of green beans and there is a square of marigolds that you can’t see well in this picture.

Sean and his sunflower.  This thing is amazing!  There are also onions, carrots, and chives in this box.

When I posted this pictures of this box before, there were no tomatoes in it.  Now there are two Roma tomato plants and one cherry tomato plant.

…and they are growing!

We’re excited and it’s been a lot of fun watching the kids help their dad in the evenings on the fence and just generally taking care of things.

Love your garden! What a cool cover! I bet you could find a way to turn that into a greenhouse for winter. Awesome job!

Hey, I didn’t know you had a green thumb. Those look great! To keep deer away my aunt uses blood meal and soap shavings (Irish Spring I think). Keep up the great work! It will feel so good to have a harvest : )

Garden looks good……Sean’s sunflower has outgrown him, huh? Mac said the netting or wire would keep the critters away and you might hand some pieces of soap in a rag on the wire at different places. Tomatoes look good…..Happy eating when they are ready…..Love you all…..
