Celebration Sunday

May 16, 2010

One of the most rewarding parts of being a parent is watching your child reach a goal or a milestone and seeing the joy on their face.  Yesterday was one of those days.

Many, many moons ago, there was a young maiden.  She was fair and sweet and longed for only one thing.

Her heart’s desire was to ride her two-legged horse.  Alas, she could only manage to ride horses with four legs, but she would not lose heart! The fair maiden consoled herself and poured all of her energy into mastering the horses that she could ride.

Seasons changed, and our fair maiden grew and grew!  When warmer weather arrived, she was ready for Sparkles — the illusive, purple horse of her dreams!

There was only one problem…Sparkles had four legs.  😦

With the grit and determination matched only by her knightly brother, she watched as her father, the king, removed Sparkles two ‘support’ legs.  Then she mounted her steed and rode off into the sunset.

…she promptly took a left turn at the sunset

…and realizing she wasn’t quite ready to stop yet

…met the brier patch.

Fabulous! Sparkles is quite a noble steed. I’m going to show these pictures to my little girl, Lúthien. She is 3 and learning to ride a tricycle.

I think Sparkles is a lovely steed. I know Princess Paisley would have loved one just like him.

My bike was my horse, too. My brother’s bike was his car.
